About Richard Silk

As a life coach, I have been successfully helping people find happy and productive solutions to their key life issues.

For over 30 years, I've worked closely with kids and parents, business owners and professionals, couples and families, church and community groups. In doing so, I've learned what it takes to foster well-being in emotional, relational and practical terms. I've seen first-hand that crisis can provide opportunities for growth, and my clients tell me that I have helped them find creative solutions and make positive changes that transform their lives.

Over a lifetime of engagement with people, I've worked as teacher, mentor, counselor, coach, school principal, and community organizer. Stemming out of this breadth of experience has come my work as personal and business life coach, family coach, parent advisor, and youth mentor.

Being a two-time national championship oarsman early in my life gave me firsthand knowledge of the importance of teamwork and the responsibilities of leadership, as well as the value of focus and discipline. My undergraduate degree from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania augmented my understanding of the business world. (I have also served on the Board of Directors of several nonprofit organizations, so I am familiar with the issues of both the for-profit and non-profit business sectors.)

My graduate degree in education prepared me for a lifetime of study of the learning process. This is the powerful combination that informs what I do-understanding what it takes to lead a team to success, knowing business dynamics, and understanding how people learn, grow, and change. This combined knowledge has made me effective in coaching small business owners and busy professionals as well as families and kids, individuals and couples.

My passion for working with people began during my graduate school years in Boston, where I worked as a bilingual teacher and coach while I earned my Master's in Education. I then taught in public schools at secondary and college and adult education levels, which led me to become first a teacher and counselor and then the principal of a private secondary boarding school with a unique approach to education, and with campuses in New York, California, and Fiji.

Now, I bring the wealth of this hands-on involvement with the learning process into my work with clients, one-on-one, in a way that allows them to keep on learning how to apply their best wisdom to their lives, and that keeps me learning with them.
